The College of Ecology and Management was established at a time when changes in the economic and social system in our country entered a stage of intense development. The forming free market gave birth to the demand for educational services, provided until 1990 exclusively by state schools. It was during this period, in response to the increased demand for professionals with higher education, that the idea of founding EEZ was born.

With the passage of time, dating back in its roots to the late 1960s, the concept of sustainable development is not losing relevance as a paradigm for both global and local development. Instead, it is gaining new practical approaches (and implementations) such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) announced by the UN in 2015 with the prospect of achieving them in 2030, and the announcements of the implementation of the Green Deal in the European Union (The European Green Deal), intended to lead to climate neutrality for Europe as a continent by 2050.

Beauty is one of the characteristics of harmony in the world. It also performs important biological functions, promoting the survival of humans as a species in natural conditions. The sense of beauty is universal and genetically determined. As a result, things that are beautiful were such both for primitive man and for those living today. The basis of beauty is symmetry. The units of symmetry are fractals. Fractal geometry makes it possible to detect beauty hidden in seemingly chaotic structures.

The article presents a method of valorizing trees for their biocenotic values. A descriptive and numerical evaluation of the biocenotic value of a tree in three categories is proposed, which are based on personal characteristics, connections with the immediate environment and location in relation to the object in question and neighboring ecosystems. The sum of the points that a tree obtains from the three categories is the basis for qualification into one of the groups of biocenotic value.

The closure of railroads, or the cessation of passenger trains on a particular route, has negative consequences. “Closures of lines in passenger traffic usually cause severe consequences for local communities. Particularly painful are the consequences of the cessation of passenger rail service for small towns and villages without other modes of transportation.” [Taylor 2007, p. 165]. “Often, the closure of a local rail service means that residents are denied access to current and potential employment, education, medical care, shopping, entertainment and many other destinations.” [Taylor 2007, p. 10].

Real estate has a primary servant role to its owners, who have or may have specific investment plans related to the property. In addition to the already well-known restrictions on the enforcement of property rights, formulated in the Law on Spatial Planning and Development, the Law on Construction, the so-called “speculative laws” relating primarily to road, railroad and housing investments, as well as implementing regulations issued under these laws, the effects of including real estate in the register of historical monuments or the municipal register of historical monuments seem to be underestimated.
