The purpose of this study is to present the contemporary problems of development and functioning of the service center of Mlawa, with a particular focus on the history of development and movement of centripetal functions in the city, linked to the centuries-old commercial tradition. The original center, i.e. the late 15th century locational market square, played the main centripetal role until World War II. Already from the end of the 19th century, the center grew in a western direction. The second half of the twentieth century saw the rapid growth of the city and the emergence of centrally important buildings in the western part of the downtown.
