The article presents the activities of the volunteer fire brigades in Stara Kornica Commune (Mazowieckie Voivodeship). A description of these formations was made and quantitative and qualitative research on their functioning was conducted. The unique virtues of these units and their role in ensuring the order and safety of local communities and in performing the tasks of Stara Kornica Commune were indicated. The aim of the work is to recognise the areas of operation of the volunteer fire brigades in Stara Kornica Commune, the uniqueness of these formations and the challenges they face regarding staff turnover, equipment, training and other factors. The service of volunteer firefighters enjoys enormous social support, respect and prestige among the local population. There is a strong belief that one may rely on volunteer firefighters in almost any situation. At the same time, firefighters demonstrate nobility and commitment to providing help, which renders this service unique.
