The article contains an analysis of changes taking place in the environment of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship over the course of 25 years, caused by anthropogenic factors. Changes in water resources, atmospheric air and acoustic climate were assessed. The analysis showed that the quality of the environment is gradually improving, positive changes include municipal management, pollutant emissions, the number of facilities and installations meeting quality standards, and the frequency of exceedances of permissible noise levels. The negative effects resulting from the economic development and consumption growth are eliminated through corrective actions resulting from the implementation of the voivodeship’s ecological policy, which is carried out on the basis of adopted regional documents, i.e. environmental protection programmes, waste management plans, air protection programmes or environmental protection programmes against noise. Activities aimed at improving the quality of natural resources and the environment, aimed at eliminating pollutant emissions, developing municipal technical infrastructure, promoting a low-emission economy, increasing the energy efficiency of buildings, reducing acoustic nuisance, maintaining water and water facilities, increasing the share of renewable energy sources in the energy balance or increase in social awareness, require continuation and strengthening. The further development of Mazovia shall be directed towards a circular economy (CE), based on modern, environmentally friendly solutions.
