October 20, 2011 marked 2 decades since the first issue of the Sierpc Variety [hereafter spelled as SR – author’s note] magazine was published. This is the first press title in the history of Sierpc that has managed to survive such a long period (with interruptions), which is no mean feat these days.

The article includes the most important research results from the modular report under the same title, carried out in the project Socio-demographic determinants of Mazovia’s development (“Development trends of Mazovia”). It was shown that the Mazovian Voivodeship is a strongly socio-demographically differentiated area. This requires different spatial and regional policies, with reference to functional and settlement specifics and historical and cultural conditions.
